It’s Friday – Time to Party Down!

Since its debut earlier this spring, Starz comedy series Party Down has won me over. I’d even go as far as saying this is, hands down, one of my favourite comedies EVER!

For those who have never seen or heard of Party Down (something that you must remedy immediately), it’s about a group of creative types – actors, screenwriters, comedians – that pay the bills by working for Los Angeles catering company Party Down, under the leadership of recovering addict/budding entrepreneur Ron Donald (portrayed by Ken Marino, best known to Veronica Mars fans as PI Vinnie Van Lowe).

With a talented ensemble cast that includes Lizzy Caplan, Martin Starr, Jane Lynch, Ryan Hansen and Adam Scott, this show easily rivals greats like 30 Rock, right down to the revolving door of brilliant guest stars, which have included JK Simmons, Steven Weber, Molly Parker and even Marilu Henner!

Tonight is the season finale, and Kristen Bell – yes, Veronica Mars herself – guest stars! Here’s a clip:

The Season Finale airs tonight at 10:30 pm on Starz.

Have you discovered Party Down yet?

Upfront about … CW’s The Vampire Diaries

TVD Somerhalder

Today, The CW’s 2009/2010 schedule was released, which revealed new series The Vampire Diaries will air in Smallville’s Thursday at 8 spot, followed by Supernatural at 9 (Smallville will move to Friday nights at 8 for its final season*).

If you’d like a sneak peek at The Vampire Diaries, visit TV Week to check out some clips.

After watching these clips, I have to admit, I’m not too thrilled with the first scene – it’s too heavy on the Twilight-esque angst for my liking. But I do love the scene with the fight between vampire brothers Damon and Stefan. Ian Somerhalder as Damon is striking in the vampy eye candy department!

After watching these clips, what do you think of CW’s Vampire Diaries? Think you’ll give it a chance?

*Updated info on SMALLVILLE – according to EW’s Michael Ausiello, CW exec Dawn Ostroff “hopes next season isn’t the last for Smallville.”

Upfront about … ABC’s V

I remember when V aired back in the early 80s. All of my classmates were glued to their TV sets, and talked about it incessantly the next day at school. I was the only one not watching due to a regularly scheduled appointment with my pillow (i.e. bedtime) and a fear of anything with aliens! Fast forward a couple of decades – I still haven’t seen the original, but am I ever excited to see ABC’s re-imagined series!

At the upfront presentation for the 2009/2010 TV season earlier today, SciFi Wire reported the following about V, with quotes from ABC Entertainment Group President Steve McPherson:

V has a “normal order right now, 13 episodes. We really, from the beginning, want to craft a whole series, and we’d like to be able to announce what that is at the time that it airs. At this point we believe it’s going to be in four parts, and those will be anything from 13 to 22 episodes in each part. But it will have a beginning, middle and end,” he added.

Here’s a sneak peek at V:

The cast alone is enough to entice me, including Lost’s Elizabeth Mitchell, Firefly’s Morena Baccarin and Alan Tudyk, and Party of Five’s Scott Wolf. That promo is just icing on this delicious sci-fi cupcake!

Now that the current TV season is winding down, I’m going to have a lot of free TV watching hours. I think I’ll check out the original V before this new one makes its debut in 2010.

So how many of you watched the original? And are you planning to tune in?

A Lost Season Finale Podcast!

lost statue

Following tonight’s Lost season finale, I joined Bill from Verbal Brew for a special edition of their podcast. Head on over and have a listen, and leave your thoughts on the finale.

I’m planning to re-watch the finale over the weekend and will share some thoughts then.

Have you seen “The Incident” yet? What did you think?

A Scene from Tomorrow’s Dollhouse!

I’m pretty darned excited for tomorrow night’s season finale of Dollhouse. I’m going for a bit of positive thinking – chant with me, “Dollhouse will have a second season, Dollhouse will have a second season.”

To get you warmed up for what is surely to be a most excellent hour of TV, here’s a scene from “Omega”:

The folks over at BuddyTV have also started a “Tweet to Save Dollhouse” campaign. If you’re on Twitter, click here to see how you can take part.

Dollverse is also spearheading a Dollhouse DVD pre-order campaign for those planning to purchase on Amazon. For dates and times on when you should pre-order your copy, check this out.

And don’t forget to tell a few friends who haven’t seen Dollhouse before to tune into the finale!

5 Reasons to Watch Dollhouse this Friday!

Dollhouse’s Miracle Laurie (Mellie/November) tweeted earlier this morning that she “thinks everyone should tell 5 people in their life, that they know haven’t seen DH to watch this Friday as a favor!”

I’ve accepted the challenge, and told five of my friends and co-workers why they need to not only tune into this Friday’s Dollhouse finale, “Omega”, but should also watch last Friday’s “Briar Rose”.

Here are 5 reasons why I’ll be watching. For those of you who haven’t watched yet, beware of spoilers!

1) Alpha. Need I say more?

2) Will DeWitt and Langton let Agent Paul Ballard out of The Dollhouse alive? In fact, who will make it out alive, period?

3) What exactly do Alpha and Echo have in store for “Caroline”?

4) Do we get confirmation that Dr. Claire Saunders is in fact a doll named Whiskey, and will anyone else be revealed as a doll (Topher, perhaps)?

5) Going out on a Friday night is highly overrated. Heck, if you insist on going out, you could be home in time for 9 pm, or go out at 10 pm once Dollhouse is over 😀

Without a doubt, “Briar Rose” was one of the best hours on network TV this year. I expect “Omega” will deliver as well!

Why will you be watching Dollhouse this Friday?

The possibilities are endless, from any of the boys on The Big Bang Theory to 24’s Chloe O’Brien, from The Office’s Dwight K. Schrute to Topher on Dollhouse, comment below with your selections for favourite geeks, and include why you think they should wear the geek crown!
