Fun With FOTC in Toronto!

Flight of the Conchords concluded 2 nights at Massey Hall in Toronto, and I was very excited to be in the audience for the April 21st show, and it was a blast!

They performed quite a few tunes from the second season of their hit HBO series, from “Too Many Dicks on the Dancefloor” to “Sugalumps”, and some old favourites, including “Foux de Fafa”, “Albi the Racist Dragon”, “Motha’uckas” and “The Most Beautiful Girl in the Room”.

Here are some of my pics from the evening:

Wiig Guests on Flight of the Conchords

Saturday Night Live’s Kristen Wiig guest starred on last night’s episode of FOTC. The results? One of the best eps this season, and a music video that would make Meatloaf jealous!

For those of you that have read the SNL Blog that I write, I’ve been quite vocal about my disappointment with most of Kristen Wiig’s quirky characters that all melt into one, mainly because they don’t utilize her talent. On FOTC, Wiig reminded me of what she’s capable of. Now if only the SNL writers would watch her on FOTC and learn from it!

Anyone else think that Wiig’s performance on FOTC was far superior to most of what she’s been doing on SNL this year?

FOTC vs Lonely Island – Is This the Same Song?

In my celebration this morning that I finally scored tickets to The Flight of the Conchords in Toronto after a few unsuccessful attemps, I decided to listen to their tune “Inner City Pressure”. Part way through the song, I nearly started singing “Jizz in my Pants” from The Lonely Island. Could they be the same song? I’d like you to decide.

Here’s FOTC’s “Inner City Pressure”:

And now The Lonely Island’s “Jizz in my Pants”:

So what do you think? Do they sound strikingly similar? Or is it that both just remind me of Pet Shop Boys’ “West End Girls”?

Could There Be A Season Three of FOTC?

fotc

It took me a few tries to warm up to HBO’s The Flight of the Conchords. I remember watching the first episode, and not being all that impressed. Then a few weeks later, I didn’t change the channel after Entourage, and something brilliant captured my attention – “Mutha’uckas”. Just one song, and I was an FOTC convert.

During the very long hiatus between Seasons One and Two of FOTC, I heard about their interview with Q Magazine, which I later read on the New Zealand Herald’s website.  It stated that the show would most likely end following Season Two due to challenges they were facing in coming up with new material. Bret McKenzie was quoted as saying:

“The second (season) seems to me like it would be a good end to the show. I feel like another 10… that will be enough.”

In a Reuters article posted earlier today, it appears Season Two may not be the end of FOTC on your TV. Jemaine Clement stated there may be a Season Three, they haven’t decided yet, and joked:

“if (Bret) starts a rumor that it’s the last season, we might get a bit of a better pay offer.”

I’d be down with one more season of FOTC, if they can match the hilarity of the other night’s tune “Sugar Lumps”. Do you want a Season Three of FOTC?
