What Cons Are You Hitting This Year?

gdl-polaris1Last summer, I went to my first sci-fi/fantasy cons, and what an experience they were for this TV fan!

At Polaris 22 in July, I got the chance to see Torchwood’s Gareth David-Lloyd, Moonlight/Veronica Mars star Jason Dohring, and Dead Like Me’s Ellen Muth. In August, it was FanExpo 2008, where I attended a fantastic BSG panel with Edward James Olmos and Aaron Douglas, and discovered the world of Smallville after checking out a session with Michael Rosenbaum and Laura Vandervoort.

There are so many cons and TV festivals being announced; most recently, PaleyFest 09, which I want to check out some day.  I’m hoping to return to both Polaris and Fan Expo this year, but my ultimate goal – San Diego Comicon!

So, any other TV lovers out there planning to hit the con circuit in 2009? And which ones would you recommend?

Fave TV Vamps as Selected by The Televixen

Happy Halloween to all of my TV loving ghosts and ghouls!  Speaking of creatures of the night … what better day than today to pay tribute to my favourite dishy TV vampires!!!

#6:  Bill Compton – True Blood.  One of my newest faves from HBO’s sizzling new series based on the Southern Vampire novels by Charlaine Harris.  Nothing like a vampire that’s also a Southern gentleman.

#5:  Mick St. John – Moonlight.  What is it about a vampire PI living in LA that’s so attractive?  In this case, it was Mick’s undying devotion to Beth.

#4:  Eric – True Blood.  The stunning head vamp that sits on his throne at Fangtasia, Shreveport’s vampire bar, and glamours people to do his bidding.

#3:  Josef Kostan – Moonlight.  Brilliant businessman, best friend to Mick, and womanizing vampire.  What more could you want?

#2:  Angel – Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Angel.  The vampire with a soul.  Once a merciless killer, now a defender against dark forces.  His and Buffy’s love rival that of Romeo & Juliet, Heloise and Abelard, Tristan & Isolde.

#1:  Spike – Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Angel.  He was evil.  He was ruthless.  He ended up lovesick.  He and Buffy had the lust that made buildings crumble around them.  Sexy, sarcastic, and ultimately self-sacrificing, That’s what makes Spike my favourite TV vampire of all time!

Now it’s time for you to share.  Let me know who your favourite undead hotties are/were by commenting below!

Polaris 22 – It’s a Wrap!

It’s Sunday evening, and I survived my very first sci-fi/fantasy conference, Polaris 22. There will be full-length articles and video footage posted over the next week, but I thought I’d take some time from resting to just share my thoughts on the weekend.

First off, I’d like to send a shout out to the other members of the media and blogosphere that I met over the past couple of days, particularly at the Saturday press conferences: Nicole, Mariah, Brian, Drew & Russel. Thanks for the advice, help, and interesting conversation. I’m sure our paths will cross again at some point.

Highlights of the weekend? The press conference with Torchwood’s Gareth David-Lloyd (photo above). The Q & A with Veronica Mars and Moonlight star Jason Dohring on Sunday (which I got to attend with my friend Sarah). And reconnecting with some friends from the 501st Legion.

Now with every good experience there has to be a flipside. Mine? How seriously some individuals take their fandom, to the point that they are just unpleasant to be around, standoffish, and constantly flaunting an air of superiority. I didn’t encounter many such characters, but it was this type of person that had kept me away from the world of sci-fi and fantasy for so long. That level of fandom might be right for some; however, I think that each person should be entitled to like or love a show/film/book/etc in whichever way that’s right for him or her, and not be looked down upon based upon these varying degrees.

Starting tomorrow evening, I’ll be posting recaps of the press conferences that I attended, along with photo and video clips. I’ll also include links to the articles on TheTVShowBlog. And if you were at Polaris, I’d like to hear your thoughts. Until tomorrow … goodnight!
