Upfront about … ABC’s V

I remember when V aired back in the early 80s. All of my classmates were glued to their TV sets, and talked about it incessantly the next day at school. I was the only one not watching due to a regularly scheduled appointment with my pillow (i.e. bedtime) and a fear of anything with aliens! Fast forward a couple of decades – I still haven’t seen the original, but am I ever excited to see ABC’s re-imagined series!

At the upfront presentation for the 2009/2010 TV season earlier today, SciFi Wire reported the following about V, with quotes from ABC Entertainment Group President Steve McPherson:

V has a “normal order right now, 13 episodes. We really, from the beginning, want to craft a whole series, and we’d like to be able to announce what that is at the time that it airs. At this point we believe it’s going to be in four parts, and those will be anything from 13 to 22 episodes in each part. But it will have a beginning, middle and end,” he added.

Here’s a sneak peek at V:

Vodpod videos no longer available.

The cast alone is enough to entice me, including Lost’s Elizabeth Mitchell, Firefly’s Morena Baccarin and Alan Tudyk, and Party of Five’s Scott Wolf. That promo is just icing on this delicious sci-fi cupcake!

Now that the current TV season is winding down, I’m going to have a lot of free TV watching hours. I think I’ll check out the original V before this new one makes its debut in 2010.

So how many of you watched the original? And are you planning to tune in?

Dates Set for Final Eli Stone Eps

eli-stone-cast

The Cast of Eli Stone

I’ve had to say goodbye to 2 series that I adored over the past two years because they were axed. First, it was Journeyman. Now, it’s Eli Stone.

For those of us who’ve been waiting for air dates on the final four Eli Stone episodes, EW’s Michael Ausiello reported yesterday that Eli Stone, Pushing Daisies and Dirty Sexy Money’s final eps will be “burned off” by ABC on consecutive Saturdays, beginning May 30th. Eli Stone will air June 20th to July 11th.

And how much do I despise the phrase “burn off” when referring to remaining episodes of a canceled series? Immensely! It brings to mind medieval ways of dealing with the bodies of plague victims, rather than a series that was never given a fair chance by its network.

I Can’t Wait for Castle!

If there’s one new show I’m looking forward to – the almighty Caprica aside – it has to be Castle!

Here’s a sneak peek:

It kind of reminds me of Bones, which is a good thing in my opinion. And I could think of nothing better than having Nathan Fillion on my TV screen once a week.

Are you looking forward to Castle? Think this show has a chance? Is ABC the network that will finally recognize and reward Fillion’s star quality?

Ready to Get Lost Again?

lost

Is everyone ready to get Lost again? After what feels like an eternity, ABC’s Lost returns in just under 24 hours!

This is the show that opened my eyes to the science fiction/fantasy genre, so it’s very special to me.  Without it, I’d never have discovered fantastic TV like BSG, Fringe, Torchwood, Doctor Who, Firefly, Buffy, Angel or Smallville.

When we last saw the Losties, the freighter had blown up, Penny’s boat found the Oceanic Six (and her beloved Desmond), the identity of the person in the coffin was revealed – oh, and Ben moved the Island!

So what’s in store for tomorrow night’s season premiere? Here’s the lowdown from ABC.com:

The remaining survivors start to feel the effects caused by the island being moved, and Jack and Ben begin their quest to reuinite the Ocean 6 — along with Locke’s body — to return to the island.

If that’s not enough to satisfy you in these final hours, here’s a sneak peek:

Are you ready for Lost? And what have you missed most about the series since last May’s season finale?

JD and Co. Scrub in on ABC (And an Eli Stone Plea!)

Last night marked the debut of Scrubs on ABC, after being mistreated by NBC for so long. I’ve adored this show since the very first episode, but was always frustrated by the little-to-no support it was given by NBC, and the constant struggle I faced each week figuring out exactly what day and time it was airing.

After a very disappointing, so-called “series finale” on NBC in May 2008, it was welcome news to hear ABC was going to give Scrubs a proper final season with an actual series finale, which creator Bill Lawrence and star Zach Braff referred to as a “gift” in a recent New York Times article.

So what did I think of the back-to-back episodes, “My Jerks” and “My Last Words”? Loved them! The second episode was particularly endearing, as JD and Turk forfeit their annual “Steak Night” to spend time with a dying patient (played brilliantly by Glynn Turman, aka The Wire’s Mayor Clarence Royce). And I liked Courtney Cox as the new Chief of Staff, Dr. Maddox.

The only thing that could have made last night PERFECT was Eli Stone in the 10 pm slot. Don’t you think Scrubs and ES would make a brilliant pairing? The people that would tune in to watch Scrubs probably would stick around for Eli Stone, speaking as a fan. They both have that whimsical quality, musical sequences, and gosh darn it, both shows have that “gee I’m glad I watched that” quality to them. Maybe ABC should reconsider axing ES and see this potential Tuesday night lineup. After all, we could all use a little magic in our lives, and who better to provide that than the staff at Sacred Heart Hospital and the gang at Weathersby Stone!

Did you catch Scrubs last night? Were you as thrilled by its return as I was? And do you think a Scrubs/Eli Stone pairing would be magic?
